An Informational Guide to Male Breast Cancer
Most men do not think about the fact that they have a minute amount of nonfunctioning breast tissue. This minute amount of breast tissue cannot generate milk, or serve any purpose, they are susceptible to a mutation of the cells that can lead to male breast cancer.
This non-muscular tissue is in the area right behind the nipple that is present on the chest. Similar to breast cancer in women, male breast cancer occurs due to the unrestrained increase in the cells of the breast tissue.
There are tubular structures called ducts in the breast tissue of both girls as well as boys. During the time of puberty, ovaries present in the girl generate female hormones called estrogen. This causes the ducts to expand and the milk glands are developed at the ends of these ducts. The amount of fat as well as connective tissue inside the breast also enlarges as the girl attains puberty.
But at the same time, male hormones like testosterone, which are produced by the testes, prohibit the development of the breast tissue and the growth of lobules. This results in under developed ducts in the male breast of which only contain a minute quantity of fat along with connective tissues.
Male breast cancer is found most often in men between the ages of 55 and 70. Although the disease can also appear in men at any age.
Only about 1 in every 1000 men are stricken with this disease.
The reason why men may develop male breast cancer is greatly in question. But researchers show that both environmental influences as well as genetic or inherited aspects are likely to contribute to a part in its growth.
There has been some research that indicates people who are exposed to ionizing waves are at a much higher level of risk for developing cancer of the breast. People who have in the past undergone therapy using radiation in order to take care of malignancies found in the chest area like Hodgkin’s lymphoma are also at risk for the development of this disease. Lymphoma is a kind of cancer that involves the cells related to the immune system which are called lymphocytes.
If any breast cancer symptoms are detected, then an immediate trip to the doctor is advisable.

A Majority Of One $17.96 This standard love story adapted by Leonard Spigelgass from his stage play was acclaimed when it was released for probing into the nature of prejudice. Rosalind Russell plays Mrs. Jacoby, a Jewish widow living in Brooklyn whose daughter Alice (Madlyn Rhue) is married to Jerome (Ray Danton), a U.S. diplomat newly assigned to Japan. Because of Jerome’s new post, Mrs. Jacoby decides to visit the land of the rising sun, and once there, she meets Koichi Asano (Alec Guinness). Asano is a suave, sophisticated, and wealthy man with an aesthetically impressive Tokyo home. After the two meet, love starts to blossom. This was one of the rare ’60s films geared to the older set but it is significant that even during this period Hollywood still chose to cast a white actor (albeit Alec Guinness!) in the role of Asano. ~ by Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide. |

A Place Called Chiapas (Widescreen) $17.96 While Mexico’s indigenous peoples have been struggling for years to gain political representation and economic justice, their battles came to a head on January 1, 1994, when a militant political faction, the Zapatista National Liberation Army (or EZLN), led by a mysterious man known only as Subcommandante Marcos, led a massive raid that took control of five villages and 500 ranches in Mexico. The EZLN’s actions were in protest of the ratification of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which (among other things) cleared the way for agricultural imports that effectively destroyed the livelihood of Mexico’s poorest citizens. Since then, the Mexican government has ruthlessly hunted down the EZLN and their leadership, though officials have denied the existence of the Peace and Justice Party, the paramilitary group established to wipe out the EZLN. For A Place Called Chiapas, Canadian documentarian Nettie Wild spent nine months in Chiapas, Mexico, one of the nation’s poorest regions and a stronghold of the EZLN, following the activities of both the EZLN rebels and the Peace and Justice party, and scoring a rare on-camera interview with Marcos (who prefers to communicate using the more anonymous and widely circulated medium of the Internet). A Place Called Chiapas won the prize for Best Documentary at the 1998 Los Angeles International Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Alternate Spanish Language Voiceover Narration, English Subtitles For The Deaf And Hearing Impaired, Zapatista Uprising Chronology, With Updates And Historical Background. |

ABBA: In Performance (With Book) $24.96 Co-founded by Swedes Benny Andersson, Bj?rn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and Agnetha F?ltskog (and named as an acronym of their first initials) , ABBA qualifies, by a long stretch, as the most commercially successful international music ensemble of the 1970s — not only because of Andersson and Ulvaeus’ ability to write slick, flashy pop tunes with catchy hooks (“Mamma Mia,” “Dancing Queen,” “Waterloo,” “Fernando,”), but because the bandmembers reportedly re-recorded their singles in numerous languages, and thus charted transcontinentally. The two couples quickly married, and in time divorced, leading to the group’s formal disbandment by 1983, but Andersson and Ulvaeus remained friends and collaborators (on such works as the short-lived Broadway musical Chess and the touring repertory show Mamma Mia!) and ABBA retained a massive international fan base — much of it brought about by P.J. Hogan’s hit 1994 film Muriel’s Wedding. Now, the home-video release ABBA: In Performance provides a critical overview of the band’s musical accomplishments — as music commentators discuss ABBA’s career atop rare concert footage of the group culled from international television programs. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide. |

American Aviator – The Howard Hughes Story $6.5 Something of an unofficial companion piece to Martin Scorsese’s 2004 box-office sensation The Aviator, the documentary The American Aviator: The Howard Hughes Story chronicles the life of the titular industrial overlord, cinematic giant, and aviation pioneer, from his wealthy upbringing in and around Houston, Texas, through the dawn of his Hollywood production career, to his descent into complete eccentricity and obscurity in the sixties and seventies. The docu places its strongest emphasis, however, on Hughes’s above-ground feats, such as the construction of the Hughes H-1 Racer, the near-tragic July 1946 XF-11 spy plane crash, and the rise and fall of the Spruce Goose. The documentary is told in straightforward style as a linear narrative, leaning heavily on rare archival footage and contemporary interviews. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide. Extra Feature: “The Outlaw”: As a filmmaker, Howard Hughes produced some of Hollywood’s most enduring films, including Hell’s Angels in 1930 and “Scarface” in 1932. He is perhaps best remembered for “The Outlaw” (1943), a controversial western that introduced Jane Russell to the nation. (123 minutes). Presented in Black & White. |

American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1965, Vol. 1 $19.86 In 1962, German concert promoters Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau were a pair of music enthusiasts who, after bringing a number of top jazz artists to Germany, struck upon the idea of assembling a package tour of leading blues artists for a series of shows in Europe. The inaugural American Folk Blues Festival marked the first time that many music fans outside the United States had the opportunity to see some of America’s great blues performers in person, and the tour had a seismic impact in many of the countries where they performed, especially England (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones, who would later form the Rolling Stones, were all in the audience for the first tour’s sole British date). After the initial tour’s rousing success, The American Folk Blues Festival became an annual event, and Lippman, who also worked in broadcasting, arranged for the festival’s artists to appear on a series of German television specials. The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1966, Vol. One was assembled from videotaped performances of headliners from the festival’s first four years; included are rare performances from Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Sippie Wallace, Otis Rush, and many more. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Newly Discovered Photo Archive, Foreward by Bill Wyman (The Rolling Stones), Bonus Track from Earl Hooker in 1969, “Walking the Floor Over You/Off the Hook”, 24-Page Booklet with an Essay by Rob Bowman. |

American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1965, Vol. 2 $17.86 In 1962, Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau were a pair of music buffs and concert promoters who stuck upon the idea of bringing a cross section of American blues musicians to Europe for a package tour. Dubbed “The American Folk Blues Festival,” the shows were a major success and played a vital role in exposing American roots music to a new and appreciative audience abroad, especially in the United Kingdom, where the concerts proved to be a significant eye-opener for the founding members of the British blues-rock boom. Lippman and Rau turned the tour into an annual event and, fortunately, arranged for their artists to appear on a series of television specials recorded for German television. The American Folk Blues Festival 1962-1965, Vol. 2 is compiled from broadcasts from the festival’s first four years and includes rare performances never before seen in the U.S. from Howlin’ Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Sunnyland Slim, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Willie Dixon, Big Mama Thornton, and more. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Plus, she had a fierce haircut. Life was good. Then suddenly, it wasn’t. When she ran out of medical options, Wendy found herself exploring everything from acupuncture, colonics, and energy healing to detox retreats, tarot card readers, and an intuitive therapist who wanted her to talk to her liver. Bride Of The Monster $9.96 To most outside observers, Bride of the Monster probably seems like a ridiculously inept horror film, and in many ways it is just that. To connoisseurs of the work of director Edward D. Wood Jr., however, it is the biggest budgeted film in his entire output, made with the resources of a normal B-movie (as opposed to his usual totally emaciated finances) and the most easily accessible of his three horror films. Bela Lugosi, in his final complete performance, portrays Dr. Eric Vornoff, a renegade Eastern European scientist with a plan to create a race of atomic supermen, giants charged with radioactivity. The problem is that the hapless hunters and other passersby at Lake Marsh, where he has set up shop with his hulking, mute assistant Lobo (Tor Johnson), whom the pair waylay, keep dying when he straps them in and switches on his atomic ray machine (which is a not-at-all disguised photographic enlarger). A dozen victims later, reporter Janet Lawson (Loretta King) goes out to investigate the disappearances — attributed to a monster — and falls into Vornoff’s hands, with her police detective fiance Dick Craig (Tony McCoy) hot on her trail, and a devious spy (George Becwar) from Vornoff’s former nation also nosing his way around the swamp and the old house. Vornoff dresses Lawson in a wedding gown and plans to irradiate her but Lobo refuses to allow it, straps Vornoff into the machine, and turns him into a radioactive giant (and into stuntman Eddie Parker, totally unconvincing in his doubling for Lugosi). ~ Bruce Eder, All Movie Guide. Cannibal Ferox (Deluxe Uncensored Letterbox Edition) (Widescreen) $14.96 Primarily a showcase for the gory special-effects artistry of Gianetto de Rossi, this revolting horror film stars Giovanni Lombardo Radice (also known as “John Morghen”) as a drug-dealer who comes to the Amazon jungle from New York looking for a cache of stolen emeralds. He joins some American college students and soon introduces them to his special lifestyle, raping a native girl, then beating a young Indio senseless before gouging out his eyeball with a knife. Naturally, the local cannibals don’t take too well to this treatment, so they cut off Radice’s penis with a machete, gouge out his eye, then scalp him and eat his brain. Deciding that his companions are also to blame, the natives hang a young woman by impaling her breasts on meat hooks while her sorrowful companion sings “Red River Valley.” Eventually, one woman gets back to New York, where she reads a dissertation on cannibalism to earn her PhD. Cult filmmaker Umberto Lenzi really outdid himself with this bloody spectacle, which maintains a consistent air of cruelty with a non-stop procession of beatings, rapes, real-life animal slaughter, larva-chewing, genital-chopping, cannibalism and the infamous meathook scene. Definitely for acquired tastes only, this nauseatingly effective shocker features a brief appearance by adult-film star Richard Bolla as a New York policeman. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide. New wide screen (1.85:1) digital transfer of the original, uncensored director’s cut, New digital stero surround sound mix, Amazing audio commentary from director Ulmberto Lenzi and star John Morghen, The original Italian, German and U.S. theatrical trailers, Dozens of rare production stills, posters and publicity materials from around the world, Liner notes from legendary Times Square historian Bill Landis, On-camera interview with director Umberto Lenzi, . |

Cannibalism: Extreme Survival (Full Frame) $13.96 Cannibalism, or the devouring of human flesh, represents one of the few moral infractions common to most cultures in the world – a strong enough infraction that most homo sapiens consider it not simply repugnant but unthinkable. But in certain situations, both under duress and out of desperation, individuals have found themselves driven to this ghastly act. The History Chennel documentary Cannibalism: Extreme Survival investigates several of these instances – a case in which four British sailors became stranded at sea after their yacht capsized, a nightmarish instance of cannibalism that erupted on the Sarah Island penal colony in 1820s Tasmania, and finally, the grisly fate that befell some Japanese military men in New Guinea during World War II. In recounting these stories, the program draws on rare archival footage and incisive historical commentary. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide. |

It combines footage shot on location in Paris and Moscow, along with extraordinarily rare archival and newsreel footage of Chaliapin playing Don Quichotte and Ivan the Terrible. Interviews turn up with those intimately acquainted with Chaliapin, including Alexei Mochalov and Sergei Leiferkus. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide. Language: Russian; Subtitles: English. |

Classic Albums: Bob Marley And The Wailers – Catch A Fire $8.96 Bob Marley’s first professional album, Catch a Fire, introduced an enthusiastic international audience to reggae music. In this documentary, the principal collaborators on Catch a Fire recount how the album and its music were created. Featuring an in-depth interview with Wailer percussionist and vocalist Bunny Wailer, as well as archival interviews with Marley and Wailer musician, singer, and composer Peter Tosh (“Peter Mackintosh” on the album), the documentary reveals that Catch a Fire was conceived as a crossover record. Traveling to London with the eight-track tapes they had recorded in Jamaica, Marley and his band polished the recordings in Basing Street Studios, where they got advice and supervision from Island Records’ honcho Chris Blackwell. White American session players like keyboard player John ‘Rabbit’ Bundrick and guitarist Wayne Perkins were brought in to sweeten the sound with overdubs intended to please an international audience. Rare home movies of the Wailers in Jamaica, and performance material of tracks like “Stir It Up,” “Stop That Train,” and “Kinky Reggae” round out the documentary. ~ Steve Blackburn, All Movie Guide. |

Come And See $17.96 A rare look at World War II from the Soviet side, Come and See is based on the real-life experiences of Ales Adamovich, who fought with Russian partisans in Belarus in 1943, when the Nazis systematically torched over 600 villages and slaughtered their inhabitants. Adamovich and director Elem Klimov co-authored the screenplay, which shows the horrors through the eyes of a 13-year-old peasant boy named Florya (Alexei Kravchenko). Over his single mother’s protests, he joins the partisans, but they leave him behind in their camp when they set off to fight the Germans. Glascha (Olga Mironova), a lovely young girl, befriends him, but the two are caught in the midst of an air raid which leaves Florya nearly deaf. Now utterly frightened, Florya and Glascha return to his village to find it in ruins, and, in one of the film’s many harrowing scenes, they wade through a swamp to locate the survivors. Now committed to seek vengeance for the death of his mother and neighbors, Florya returns to the front, but finds himself in a village that’s right in the path of the Nazi firestorm. A band of partisans arrive too late to save the village but in time to capture and mete out justice to several of the Nazi officers. Awarded the Grand Prix at the 1985 Moscow Film Festival, Come and See is notable as an honest and unflinching portrait of one of the darker chapters among many in the history of the World War II. ~ Tom Wiener, All Movie Guide. Devo: The Complete Truth About De-Evolution $12.74 Featuring herky-jerky rhythms and fractured melodies, bizarre choreography and costumes, an often confrontational performance style, and a philosophy that mankind, after climbing to the top of the food chain, was slowly but surely scurrying back down, Devo weren’t much like anyone else in pop music, even during the New Wave explosion of the late 1970′s. Devo were also a band who saw plenty of potential in the medium of the music video, using visuals to at once enhance and contrast the messages of their songs, and even before the rise of MTV, Devo were creating bizarre but sophisticated promotional clips to illustrate their tunes. Devo: The Complete Truth About De-Evolution is a comprehensive collection of the band’s music videos, with rare performance footage and thoughts from the band added for good measure. Selections include “Whip It”, “Satisfaction”, “Girl U Want”, “Beautiful World”, “Freedom Of Choice”, “Mongoloid”, “Come Back Jonee”, and more. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Commentary by Gerald V. Dodge City $14.96 This landmark western — which, along with Stagecoach, has often been credited with revitalizing what had become a stagnant genre — stars Errol Flynn as Wade Hatton, a cattle man who arrives in the frontier community of Dodge City, which is overrun by footloose cowboys and outlaws. When Hatton helps Dodge City lawmen capture a gang of cattle rustlers led by Jeff Surrett (Bruce Cabot), he’s asked to help guide a wagon train into town with his friends Rusty Hart (Alan Hale, Sr.) and Tex Baird (Guinn Williams). En route, an impulsive young cowpoke named Lee Irving (William Lundigan) needlessly fires off his pistol, sparking a cattle stampede that leads to his death. When Hatton and his men arrive in Dodge, they discover Surrett is once again at large, and his gang has taken over the city. Appointed the city’s new sheriff, Hatton is determined to clean up the town and put the outlaws out of business. In his rare moments off duty, Hatton tries to win the affections of Abbie Irving (Olivia de Havilland), but she believes that Hatton is responsible for the death of her brother Lee; Hatton’s habit of flirting with dance hall girl Ruby Gilman (Ann Sheridan) does nothing to improve her opinion of him. A solid box office hit, Dodge City was the first of a series of westerns for swashbuckling star Flynn; his next oater, Virginia City, followed in 1940. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Faust (Full Frame) $17.96 Faust was the mammoth German production which won F. W. Murnau his contract with Hollywood’s Fox Studios. Emil Jannings glowers his way through the role of Mephistopholes, who offers the aging Faust (Gosta Eckman) an opportunity to relive his youth, the price being Faust’s soul. Though highly stylized, the film is unsettlingly realistic at times, especially during the execution of the unfortunate Gretchen. Even in old age, actress Camilla Horn could recall how close she came to genuine immolation when Murnau burned her at the stake. An American version of Faust had been planned earlier as a Mary Pickford vehicle, but Pickford’s mother wanted no part of a film in which her darling daughter strangled her own baby. The scenario for Faust touches lightly upon the previous retellings by Goethe and Marlowe, but is more heavily reliant on the paintings of Pietr Breughel. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide. Digitally Mastered From 35 Mm Archive Materials, Digital Stereo Orchestral Score, “UFA Studios 1925: The Making Of Faust” (A Gallery Of Rare Production Stills), Essay By Film Historian Jan Christopher Horak. Fire On The Mountain $25.46 In 1941, as the United States was entering World War II, the U.S. Army formed the 10th Mountain Division, the first battalion trained specifically to fight under cold-weather conditions. In addition to traditional fighting skills, the 10th Mountain Division were also experts in skiing, avalanche safety, and mountain and rock climbing. The innovations created for the 10th Mountain Division included nylon climbing rope, the snowmobile, and “mummy” style sleeping bags; the Division was also involved in a heroic assault on Italy’s Riva Ridge in 1945, in which the men scaled a sheer, snow-covered 2,300 foot surface to claim the territory from German troops, a strategically crucial battle that was won at a fearsome cost (1,000 American soldiers died in the Riva Ridge battle and another 4,000 were injured). After the war, many veterans of the 10th Mountain Division went on to distinguish themselves, including founding the Sierra Club, Outward Bound, and the first major ski resort in Vail, Colorado. Fire on the Mountain examines the remarkable history of the 10th Mountain Division, including rare combat footage of the platoon in action, interviews with a number of surviving veterans, and film from a historic meeting between American and German survivors of the Riva Ridge battle. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Girl 27 (Widescreen) $6.96 In 1937, Patricia Douglas was a 20-year-old living in Hollywood with her mother, a dressmaker. Patricia was a talented dancer who had landed bit parts in several movies when she was hired for what she was told would be a day’s work at the Hal Roach Studios in a project for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. However, the truth was Patricia was one of 120 young woman hired as hostesses for a wild party being thrown by MGM for 282 regional sales men from distribution branches around the country. The evening turned into a drunken free-for-all, and Patricia was raped by a salesman from Chicago. MGM was determined to keep the incident quiet, but Patricia was equally determined to bring her attacker to justice and see that the most powerful studio in Hollywood was held accountable. While Patricia Douglas’ story was briefly national news, MGM used their considerable influence to discredit Patricia and wipe the incident from their official records, but in 2003 writer David Stenn tracked down Patricia and interviewed her for a major story on the forgotten scandal published in Vanity Fair. Girl 27 marks Stenn’s debut as a documentary filmmaker, as he brings this story of Hollywood’s seedy underside to the screen. Girl 27 was screened in competition at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide.

Hollywood Extra Girl – the rare short film from 1935, Audio commentary by David Stenn, Photo gallery, Theatrical trailer. |

Goebbels Experiment $25.46 Joseph Goebbels has often been cited as the man who did the most to help Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party rise to power; he was the architect of the party’s propaganda machine and helped to craft the public image of Hitler as he became one of the most hated and feared leaders of his time, and masterminded the greatest crime of the 20th Century. However, while Hitler’s life outside of politics has long been a subject of interest, less is known about Goebbels, and The Goebbels Experiment is a documentary which draws upon Goebbels’ own journals and rare archival to craft a portrait of his private side, including his passion for the Nazi cause, his devotion to Hitler, his battle with depression, his dramatic mood swings, and his severe contempt for anyone who did not live up to his standards. Kenneth Branagh narrates the English language version of the film. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide. Film Notes, Filmmaker Biographies, World War II Film Collection Preview. Subtitles: English. |

Heavy Petting $18.96 Those of us who had to suffer such “instructional” films as Dating Do’s and Don’ts in high school will be especially entertained by Heavy Petting. In the visually sarcastic manner of the nuclear-age documentary The Atomic Cafe, the film assembles masses of information and misinformation about teenage dating rituals of the 1950s. Clips from contemporary movies, TV programs, commercials, and “sex hygiene” short subjects are used throughout; perhaps once upon a time these vignettes could have been taken seriously, but here they’re only good for howls of laughter. Interspersed among the vintage footage are interviews with such children of the 1960s as David Byrne and William S. Burroughs. One look at the 1950s as depicted in Heavy Petting, and it’s easy to see how the sensuous, psychedelic ’60s came to be. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide. Disc 1: Rare Extended Sexual Confessions of Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Spalding Gray, Abbie Hoffman and More!, Filmmaker Interview, 16×9 Widescreen, Disc 2: Ten Hilarious Sex-Ed, Anit-Pornography and VD Scare Films of the 30s, 40s, and 50s Including: Perversion for Profit, Dance Little Children, The Innocent Party, As Boys Grow, Easy to Get and More!. |

Established in 1941 and liberated by the Soviet advance just three years later, Majdanek was located near Lubin and served as a frightful reminder of the efficiency of the Nazi death machine. House By The River $13.96 Fritz Lang was the guiding hand of this laudable Republic Studios melodrama. Louis Hayward stars as a wealthy wastrel who tries to seduce the family maid. She resists, and he kills her. Long jealous of his brother Lee Bowman, Hayward does his best to pin the blame for the murder on his sibling. Also affected by Hayward’s arrogant dementia is his long-suffering wife Jane Wyatt. Originally, director Lang had proposed that the unfortunate maid be a black woman, and that the killing take place accidentally during some harmless flirtation on Hayward’s part. He was vetoed by the timorous Republic staff (even the slightest hint of miscegenation was taboo in 1950), but House by the River turned out pretty well all the same. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide.

Mastered From Rare Archival Material At The National Film And Television Archive, London, Interview With Celebrated Producer And Cineaste Pierre Rissient, Gallery Of Images.

Presented In Black & White. |
